What Are They?

Some patients will not experience any heartburn or regurgitation, which is another common symptom of acid reflux. In fact, some people do not have any symptoms of the disease at all.  There are symptoms that are also known to be part of GERD that only appear in some people, and they may happen in other areas of your body.

For example, you may suffer from chest sensations or even chest pain.  Some people, after eating, feel like they have a piece of food that is lodged in their throats or behind their breastbone.  This type of chest pain is different from the pain of a heart attack or other heart conditions. It is important to know the difference and to seek immediate medical attention if you have a tight, squeezing or rapid heart rate pain in your chest, as that is a symptom of a heart attack.Other symptoms will affect the throat including problems swallowing, a chronic sore throat, persistent hiccups and hoarseness.  A dry cough or the feeling of having a lump in your throat is also just as serious.
